This piece is made with a rare Rhyolite stone & one solid twig of Lilac all encased in darkened copper! The chain featured one single Ruby Jade bead to represent the pomegranate seeds consumed by Persephone.

This collection is called "The Rise of Persephone". Each piece is carefully crafted with a specific intention in mind involving her story and myth. This specific stone was found in Wyoming from a local lapidarist (someone who cuts stones). He took it to his craft space and hand cut it himself. Rhyolite is a type of volcanic rock that forms from rapid cooling of lava. Very suiting that the red within it (coming from a lava iron deposit) is both shaped as flames as well as the cut of the stone is. Persephone is a torch bearer in Greek Mythology- often seen holding a torch in early depictions. This torch represents both her goddess-ship in the Underworld as well as her being a bringer of light during her transition between worlds.
I crafted this piece with a solid twig from a Lilac visited in a local graveyard. As she is both the Maiden of Spring and Queen of the Underworld- Lilac and graveyard feels suiting. Lilac trees are one of my favorite spring scents and she does oversee the land of the dead after all.
The single Ruby Jade "pomegranate" bead being placed hidden at the clasp of the chain is intentional. As you wrap and clasp a necklace- you're securing (or binding) it to yourself for the day. Just as the pomegranate secured (or bound) Persephone to the Underworld for half of the year.
